In this clip from Podhalla — the Golden State Valkyries podcast on BSPN — Garrett and Brian Gonzales react to ESPN's 2026 WNBA Top 50 player rankings and make the case that the Golden State Valkyries got disrespected. Gabby Williams, the Valkyries' leading scorer and a 2026 WNBA All-Star Game starter, checks in at just No. 26 — while Veronica Burton lands at No. 35, four spots behind Carla Leite, her own backup on last year's Valkyries roster before Leite was taken by Portland in the expansion draft. Garrett and Brian break down why an All-Star starter should be ranked higher, argue Burton's two-way game deserves more credit than ESPN gave her, and call out a handful of players slotted above the Valkyries duo who haven't had the kind of seasons that justify it.
Last Time Out
Valkyries: Golden State pulled out an 88-83 win over the Atlanta Dream on Saturday, with Veronica Burton scoring 21 points and Gabby Williams closing the game with 14 of her 19 points in the second half. The win extended the Valkyries' winning streak to four and completed a season sweep of Atlanta.
Mystics: Washington beat the Dream 81-76 on Thursday, with Shakira Austin scoring 21 points and grabbing nine rebounds while Kiki Iriafen added 14 points and 10 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season. The win was Washington's second straight, following a franchise-defining four-overtime victory over Portland the previous Sunday.
Citron's Status Looms Over the Series Opener
Washington will be shorthanded in this first meeting of the season if Sonia Citron can't go. The second-year guard put up a career-high 32 points in that quadruple-overtime win over Portland, but right knee soreness has kept her out since, including Thursday's win over Atlanta. The Mystics have found ways to win without her behind Shakira Austin and Kiki Iriafen, but they'll need their leading scorer back at full strength to have a real shot against a Golden State team riding a four-game win streak. On the other side, Gabby Williams continues to play like the All-Star she was just named, closing out Saturday's win over Atlanta with a dominant second-half stretch.
