Valkyries: Golden State fell 91-89 on the road to the Phoenix Mercury on Wednesday, July 29. Cecilia Zandalasini led the way with a team-high 16 points, scoring 11 of them in the second quarter, but the Valkyries dropped to third place in the standings.
Tempo: Toronto has lost five straight, most recently a lopsided 104-72 defeat to the Minnesota Lynx on Thursday night.
A Rematch After a Fourth-Quarter Statement Win
Golden State and Toronto met once already this season, with the Valkyries erasing a deficit behind a 26-16 fourth quarter to escape Toronto 83-75 on July 8 — Janelle Salaün led all scorers with 26 points. Sunday kicks off a home-and-home rematch (the teams meet again Tuesday, August 4), and Toronto brings its first All-Star, Marina Mabrey, who scored 23 points and hit five threes at the 2026 All-Star Game. The Tempo have also been banged up, with Brittney Sykes (plantar fascia) out since June 19 and Nyara Sabally and Isabelle Harrison both battling injuries in recent weeks.
