In this episode of Podhalla — the Golden State Valkyries podcast on BSPN — Garrett Gonzales and Conrado Pascual break down the Valkyries' six-game winning streak, arguably the hottest run by any team in the WNBA right now, and where Golden State now sits in the league's power poll. They make the case for Kaitlyn Chen as a Most Improved Player candidate, dig into how Kiah Stokes has turned things around after a rough start to the season, and preview the Valkyries' upcoming week of games.

Last Time Out

Valkyries: Golden State ran its winning streak to six games with an 83-75 win over the Toronto Tempo on July 8. Janelle Salaun led all scorers with 26 points as the Valkyries closed out their first-ever international road trip with a win.

Sun: Connecticut fell 86-80 to the Minnesota Lynx on July 8, two days after upsetting that same Lynx team 90-89 on July 6 behind a season-high 29 points and 10 rebounds from Brittney Griner.

A UConn Homecoming in Uncasville

Four University of Connecticut alums — starters Gabby Williams and Kiah Stokes, plus reserves Kaitlyn Chen and Tiffany Hayes — make the trip to Mohegan Sun Arena, just down the road from their alma mater. It's a fitting stage for a Valkyries team riding a franchise-record six-game win streak that has them sitting third in the WNBA. The two teams already met once this season, and it wasn't close: Golden State throttled Connecticut 97-70 in San Francisco on May 25, still the largest margin of victory in any Valkyries game this year.

Latest News

Brittney Griner (Sun, C) is questionable/day-to-day with a left quadriceps strain after being ruled out ahead of Connecticut's July 8 game against Minnesota. The Sun are also without Aaliyah Edwards, Aneesah Morrow, Saniya Rivers, and Hailey Van Lith.

Gabby Williams (Valkyries, F) is questionable with a back contusion after a second-half fall in a recent game.

Connecticut sits at the bottom of the WNBA standings at 5-16, while Golden State's sixth straight win has it holding the league's third-best record at 16-7.
