In this episode of Podhalla — the Golden State Valkyries podcast on BSPN — Garrett Gonzales and Conrado Pascual break down the Valkyries' four-game winning streak and the best basketball Golden State has played all season. They look ahead to a brutal upcoming four-game stretch, make the All-Star case for Gabby Williams and Veronica Burton, dig into Juste Jocyte's dwindling playing time, and close out with Golden State Warriors draft talk.
Last Time Out
Valkyries: Golden State defeated the Dallas Wings 91-80 on Wednesday at Chase Center. Gabby Williams led the way with a team-high 25 points, while Kayla Thornton added 8 points and a season-high 11 rebounds. The win extended the Valkyries' winning streak to four games.
Lynx: Minnesota is riding high entering Friday, with rookie guard Olivia Miles making history on Wednesday — she scored the most points in a single half by a rookie in WNBA history (24 points). Miles continues to set the bar for first-year players across the board.
Olivia Miles Is Making History — and the Valkyries Need to Contain Her
Lynx rookie Olivia Miles isn't just good for a first-year player — she's one of the best guards in the league, period. Miles leads all rookies in points (19.0 PPG), assists (5.7 APG), and steals (1.4 SPG) and is the only player in the WNBA this season averaging at least 19 points while shooting better than 55 percent from the field (56.6%). Her 485 points generated (scored + assisted) in the first 15 games is the most by any rookie in league history through that stretch. Golden State will need Veronica Burton — who leads the WNBA in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.48) — to be the difference-maker on both ends if they want to snap the Lynx's advantage in this series.
