In this episode of Thompson 2 Clark — the San Francisco Giants podcast on BSPN — Brad Evans and Garrett Gonzales dig into Buster Posey's end-of-season press conference after a 97-loss season, the fourth-most losses in franchise history. Posey, Zack Minasian and Tony Vitello spent nearly 40 minutes at Oracle Park taking questions, and Posey took the blame for a bullpen that finished 19th in the majors in ERA with 27 blown saves, saying the Giants "probably overestimated some of the guys" and that fixing the bullpen is where the offseason starts, with the rotation right behind it. He also made a point of saying the Giants don't "have blinders on" that the wins and losses still weren't there with the group — so after all that, does Posey actually have any answers? Brad and Garrett weigh in.
They also take a swing at guessing whether the Giants will make any coaching changes. The club didn't announce any staff moves at the press conference, but Posey said they'll discuss it this month and that a couple of changes are possible, while Vitello — under contract for two more seasons — is safe heading into 2027.
To close it out, they break down the MLB Division Series matchups after the Wild Card round: in the NL, the Braves take on the Dodgers and the Padres face the Brewers, while the AL has the White Sox against the Guardians and the Yankees against the Rays.
