Valkyries: Gabby Williams erupted for a career-high 27 points — the highest single-game output by a Valkyrie this season and third-best in franchise history — but Golden State couldn't hold on, falling 84-79 to the Las Vegas Aces on Saturday. Veronica Burton gave the Valkyries a one-point lead with a banked left-handed layup at the 38-second mark, but Jackie Young answered with her sixth three-pointer of the night to put the Aces up two. Burton split a pair of free throws on the next possession, and the Valkyries couldn't convert a potential game-tying attempt on their final possession.
Mercury: Phoenix snapped a long skid with back-to-back road wins for the first time this season — edging the Seattle Storm 72-68 on June 3 and the Portland Fire 78-72 on June 5. The Mercury come into Chase Center with momentum, looking to extend their streak to three.
Alyssa Thomas Is a Problem
Phoenix's Alyssa Thomas, the WNBA's all-time triple-double leader, is the only player in the league this season averaging at least 15 points (15.0 PPG), 7 rebounds (7.0 RPG), and 7 assists (7.5 APG) — while also leading the Mercury in steals at 1.8 per game. Containing Thomas will be the biggest defensive challenge for a Valkyries team that's still searching for its Commissioner's Cup form after going 1-2 in group play.

The Valkyries recently signed center Nadia Fingall to a rest-of-season contract, adding frontcourt depth as the team pushes through a demanding stretch. On the Mercury side, Phoenix waived Kiana Williams this week and added Lexi Held, who was picked up by Toronto in the expansion draft before returning to Phoenix.
